Slavery

Slavery is defined as:

β€œ[an] institution based on a relationship of dominance and submission, whereby one person owns another and can exact from that person labor or other services.”

Socialism is defined as:

β€œAny of [the] various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.”

In other words, the government controls, by threat of physical force (i.e. imprisonment or fine) the means of production. Therefore if a person wants to work, they must work for the government, this same government then decides his reward for this labor, this person has no other options, he is submissive to the state who can extract labor from him, he is a slave.

Socialism:

"Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy."
Communism:

"A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members."

The only real differences between socialism and communism are that socialism is able to use the market to distribute goods. However, this is not a free market because all contracts made to buy and sell on the market are subject to government approval. And that socialism is able to retain democracy, however, a slave is still a slave even if he gets to choose his master, he will of course be better of than a slave that can't. The common trait between the two systems is that they both view society as being a higher priority than the individual, therefore all individuals must serve society, which is represented by the government.
Where capitalism disagrees with both of these systems is that capitalists like myself believe that the individual is an end in him or herself and that even if society can be better served by controlling their actions, it is still immoral to do so, whatever the benefits could be.

Of course I do have to admit that I did go off into the deep end a bit there, as I often do. Thanks for reining me back in Sleepy Man. Oh yeah, and another classic rant from maddox again, at least someone has the gutts to say these things!!!
